Alamo Bitcoin Newsletter

Welcome to Alamo Bitcoin Your Local Newsletter working out of the bitcoin hub Alamo Labs in collaboration with San Antonio Bitcoin Club. We are an outlet into the bitcoin community. Bringing eye level news and information from the bitcoin space

Coinbase just filed to ditch Delaware for Texas, citing the state's predictable courts and pro-business vibe. No full HQ move yet (they're remote-first), but Texas is now the go-to for crypto giants fleeing "Dexit."

San Antonio speculation? Not crazy.

  • Cheaper land/electricity than Austin.
  • 1.5 hrs away but untapped talent (UTSA, military-tech crossover).
  • Logistics hub with blockchain-friendly policies already in motion.

If they expand physically, we’ll hear about it. San Antonio dark horse or Austin orbit? You tell me?

Bitcoin ends October red for first time since 2018 amid Fed caution and tariff. Yet on chain strength continues to grow with new users.

  • Price: $110,000 (-3.6% MoM)
  • Hashrate: 1,030 EH/s (Exahash) 1 bitcoin miner = 200 TH (Terahash)
S21 pro model

1EH (Exahash) = 5000 bitcoin miners x 200TH = 1,030EH = 5.15 million machines

  • On-chain: 1.2 M active addresses (up 11% MoM)

Soooo why is the bitcoin price going down??

Conclusion: While there are big companies buying bitcoin. Something to note is alot of them are not holding actual bitcoin. But paper bitcoin due to leaving coins on exchanges. This allows companies like Coinbase, CashApp,Paypal,Robinhood to enable fractional lending basically what the banks do with USD once deposited they tell customers they have all the funds, they then lend out the customers funds to other customers for a withdrawal or even gamble with them to make a profit for the company. Knowing certain companies like Microstrategies will never hold on to their bitcoin themselves, these exchanges are able to exceed their physical balance of bitcoin. Also people playing with leverage, betting bitcoin to go higher, were liquidated. Meaning their coins got sold, when their guess was wrong and the number went too low. Number kept going lower, people stayed in thinking it'd go back up, but as a result more people lost more bitcoin and number went down. Remember bitcoin breaks all models, in the long run best security practices and reoccurring buys win. Time in the market beats timing the market.

1. TECH DEEP DIVE There's a debate going on in bitcoin and you should probably know about it! . Knots vs Bitcoin Core

Knots

The enhanced node software gaining traction (and why it matters)
Bitcoin Knots is Bitcoin Core with stricter rules, in October 2025, Knots adoption spiked 15% users leading the charge for conservative upgrades.Key wins over Core:

  • Mempool policy tweaks: Knots lets you filter spam transactions (e.g., NFT's and junk on your bitcoin), reducing node bloating if nodes get to bloated the average person can't run a node and verify for themselves.
  • Privacy boosts: Enhanced coin control and RBF (Replace-By-Fee) options help avoid common footguns in self-custody.
  • Efficiency: Lower resource use for low-spec hardware, perfect for running a node on a Raspberry Pi in your Alamo City garage.

Bitcoin Core

Is what bitcoin is, the actual code that we all use and run ,the longest chain in existence. Maintained by a global team of 20 core developers, the latest v30.0 (October 2025) pushes boundaries on scalability and usability without breaking consensus which is a good thing. Amid the v30 drama doubling Knots adoption to ~17% of nodes Core remains defining what Bitcoin is for most users.Key wins in v30:

  • OP_RETURN Expansion: Default limit jumps from 80 bytes to 100,000 bytes, enabling multiple outputs for data like timestamps, Runes tokens, or identity proofs. This makes non financial usage on bitcoin possible.
  • Wallet Overhaul: Drops legacy(old) Wallet support for new wallet support that works better with lightning bitcoins layer 2 and includes fee bumping for getting payments through.(option to tip the bounce at a club to let you in)
  • Performance & Security: Redesigned orphan buffer boosts DoS resistance; package relay for Child-Pays-For-Parent (CPFP) efficiency; min relay feerate drops to 0.1 sat/vB. Experimental Stratum V2 IPC for miners.

Conclusion: Although not a serious problem at the moment it is something to keep in mind. We here at the San Antonio Bitcoin Club have ya covered on this whole topic to help you choose which one is right for yourself! Core is looking to make more use of bitcoin by playing by it's rules and also enabling the use of NFT's and other non monetary uses on bitcoin, allowing more innovation on bitcoin. While Knots is wanting to enforce filters, which help take extra data off bitcoin like NFT'S, keeping bitcoin strictly a monetary tool which is what it was designed for. In the past when things were not resolved through voting, a hard fork split happens. Think about it this way do you like your dollar bills to have graffiti on them? Or do you like them to be readable and easy to use? We can perform origami with our paper dollars but does that make a dollar bill more valuable? This issue is not at the level due to everything being played by the rules technically.

3. MACRO & POLITICS

Fed, rates, elections – filtered through Bitcoin lensFed Cuts 25 bps – What it means for BTC

  • Second straight cut (now 3.75–4%) signals labor worries, but Powell hints "pause" in Dec dampening Oct rally amid Trump tariff threats.
  • Historical correlation: Post cut cycles → BTC +150% avg in 6 mo (e.g., 2020's 300% rip).
Fed funds Rate vs Bitcoin Price

4. QUICK HITS

  • Lightning capacity dips 20% to 4,200 BTC—but withdrawals hit 15% ATH via exchanges like Coinbase
  • Tether prints $1.5B USDT on Bitcoin (via Taproot Assets launch)

Conclusion: It's great withdrawals are up 15% self custody is part of best security practices. Tether being the top stable coin globally adds alot of liquidity to bitcoin the taproot asset launch means people using tether on bitcoin giving users more stability.
